DIP-1: Jalapeno & Cilantro Hummus
Jalapeno and Cilantro hummus
Welcome to my page, welcome to my first post, and welcome to the first Dip! From all the recipes waiting to be published here I gotta start somewhere right?
With that said, let’s talk about this dip. Twas not born from my own idea, however I changed the recipe and the ingredients for my liking. Was actually browsing in Costco, when I noticed a version of this green goodness on the shelves, and it definitely tickled my interest. The great thing about hummus is, it can be flavored almost millions of ways (ok maybe thats a lot, but I will definitely give it a try), spicy hummus is usually quite popular, jalapeno and cilantro make a perfect pair, and lime is always a good choice.
However, I wanted something, with just a little kick, and more the taste of the green pepper and herb, not to be overpowered by too much hot spice. The result is a fresh easy to eat, delicious dip!
ingredients
2 jalapenos
1 green pepper
1 clove of garlic
1 teaspoon of ground cumin
1 lime
a handful of fresh cilantro
small can of chickpeas
1 tablespoon of tahini
olive oil
salt and pepper
please read the recipe first, and follow the steps. It is very easy to make, you dont need any cooking skills.
cut off the stems of the jalapenos, and preferably wearing a rubber glove deseed the peppers. slice them into chunks.(watch out jalapeno seeds can be very spicy, if you dont have any gloves make sure, you was your hands carefully and dont tuch your eyes)
remove the seeds and slice the peppers into small chunks
heat up a skillet, add olive oil, the garlic cloves, and the peppers and salt to taste
while stirring brown them for a few minutes, add half of the cilantro, and saute the greens.
remove from heat, let them cool
separate the chickpeas, from the brine, but keep the brine for later, you might need it, if your hummus is too thick.
when your peppers are cold or room temperature, add them to the food processor/chooper/mixer and blend until you get a smooth pure.
remove some of the pure for topping
now add the remaining cilantro, lime juice, the chickpeas, and the tahini, cumin, and blend them together.
in case your hummus, is too thick and not smooth enough, add some of the chickpea brine.
Serve with farm naan, or pita, garlic breads, toasts, crackers, chips, veggie sticks, grills or bbq. Enjoy!
